A graduate TA in my biochem lab pulled a friend and I aside after our presentations today to tell us to not speak with such “feminine mannerisms” if we wanted to be taken seriously in the field🙄
"i think if i was a resident 300k in debt, making minimum wage, working 80 hours a week trying to save peoples lives.. all that to be called scum.. i think i would start crying" ok that hit hard
There is no good argument for legacy admissions. You had nothing to do with your parent or grandparent graduating from college. You should not have an unearned advantage over a non-legacy applicant by accident of birth.
Students who were forced to be resilient their whole lives don’t need another conversation about grit. They need resources, guidance, sponsorship, advocacy….etc.
I dislike the “superwoman” rhetoric in medicine. I have no desire to be that. I’m lowkey lazy. I love rest. I don’t want to “do it all.” I will take full maternity leave; I don’t want to answer emails on vacation. I wish I saw that practiced (& even celebrated) in my field.
