Today would have been the 58th wedding anniversary of King Harald and Queen Sonja.

King Harald died yesterday morning at the age of 89.

His coffin currently rests at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

King Harald of Norway died the day before the anniversary of his wedding to Queen Sonja.

Harald V and Queen Sonja married on August 29th 1968 in Oslo.

Harald was Crown Prince, Sonja was a ''commoner'' and opposition was fierce. Harald said he would never marry if he couldn't wed Sonja, which would have left the succession in tatters. True love triumphed.

Queen Sonja now mourns her life companion.

Norway's Royal Household is announced, hours into the new reign.

HM King Haakon VIII heads it. Other members are HM The Queen of Norway, Queen Mette-Marit and HRH The Crown Princess (Ingrid Alexandra) and HM Queen Sonja.

This confirms that Mette-Marit will now be known as The Queen of Norway.

The reign of King Haakon VIII began at dawn today, August 28, on the death of his father, King Harald V.

The first portrait of the new king shows grief etched on his face. He kept vigil with his father through the night as Harald V slipped away.

King Haakon VIII has taken the motto Alt for Norge, All for Norway.

It's clear that King Harald means a huge amount to many in Norway. People today have spoken of his kindness, his wisdom and his devotion to duty.

His motto is Alt for Norge, All for Norway. Now, his country waits for news of the king who has reigned since 1991 as his health worsens.
