Every year I am trying something new to make my #Damallsvenskan coverage more interesting despite limited resources and visibility. This time I came up with the idea of #Damallsvenskan HighFive.
The concept is very simple - every month I am going to post a thread dedicated to five players who inspired me most within a given month.
This will serve as a little, virtual HighFive, so their efforts are properly recognized and celebrated. Without further ado, let's move on to the first 'Hall of Fame' for the current league campaign.
------
1) Linda Boama - another living example of Kristianstad deserving A+ for their recruitment skills, especially the ones covering Icelandic soil. At the end of the month, Boama topped both scoring and assist table and played a pivotal role in almost everything KDFF's offense produced. A fantastic introduction from another exceptional Icelandic forward!
2) Nathalie Hoff Persson - let's be honest - despite their record Malmö did not look like a title contender in any of their cup & league games so far. However, they can always count on Hoff Persson aka Damallsvenskan's most underappreciated player. Always ready to deliver a cross, a decisive pass or a dynamic run down the right wing to make things easier for MFF and ttheir hunt for some silverware.
3) Shiho Matsubara - a true heart of Piteå's midfield. If it wasn't for her, the Norrbotten side would have faced way more difficulty overcoming both Vittsjö and Växjö in the crucial, early-season six-point-games. Her co-operation with the experienced Josefin Johansson can be one of Piteå's strongest assets as the season progresses.
4) Anna Anvegård - two time Damallsvenskan top goalscorer claimed that this year she would be way more satisfied with winning the assist league. And judging by how things started, she may be on course for achieving her goal. No matter the circumstances, players like Schröder, Nyström or Jusu Bah are very lycky to be playing alongside Anvegård.
5) Urara Watanabe - when Wahlström, Rubin and Osigwe all disappeared from the Djurgården line-up, the search for urgent replacement quickly became a huge priority. It turned out that the right solution was closer than initially thought and the 23-year-old Japanese (previously playing in a slightly deeper role) took the league by storm as DIF's 'false nine'. Such a switch opened the door for new options in the wing play (not yet explored, but the absence of Ulenius made it more challenging to impleent them directly). Watanabe was also the scorer of the most beautiful goal of the season so far (vs Norrköping), but her joy was short-lived as it was incorrectly disallowed by the ref, which resulted in Djurgården dropping even more precious points in the process.
