I’m always asked about elected female role models.
There weren’t many when I was young except for Joan Bozer – community activist who won a seat in County Legislature.
Whenever I can, I honor this 90-year-old for her influence on me.
Joan, this one’s for you☕️🙌

Joan Bozer lived an incredible life. A political trailblazer, a staunch advocate for our parks system, and a champion for Buffalo.
It was an honor to work with her over the years, especially on the Carousel at Canalside. She will be greatly missed.

So sad to learn that Buffalo lost one of its dearest and best souls today -- former Erie County Legislator Joan Bozer. Joan was also a top environmental advocate, and a founder of the National Association of Olmsted Parks. Proud to have had her as a friend.
Teachers, parents, students: I've decided to start a daily read-aloud of WONDER! Still figuring out platform, to be announced next week, but I was thinking at 12pm every weekday: I'll read a few chapters and add a little commentary. Stay tuned for details. #WONDERreadaloud
@ncte A4: All students want to learn/communicate, no matter their perceived stance toward reading. Images and videos, oral storytelling, and audio are important narrative forms. Make these mentors a central part of classroom writing practice #NCTEchat#WhyIWrite#LitBankStreet
@ncte @ReadKellyWrite Choice & Voice. Give students the choice to write what they want for the purpose that they choose. Show them that writing is powerful. #NCTEChat#WhyIWrite#LitBankStreet
@ncte @RyanBretsch A2: Give writing a purpose! Step away from the mainstream curriculum to discuss why people write in the real world. #NCTEchat#WhyIWrite#LitBankStreet
Happy National Day on Writing. Celebrating in my classroom this week. Thinking about how to make writing in school feel less like a chore and more like a creative outlet. #NCTEchat#LitBankStreet
