Bulgaria 🇧🇬 is completely underestimated.
For centuries it stood at the crossroads of empires, surviving invasions, occupations, and betrayals. It was a brilliant part of the Byzantine empire and gave it several emperors. It endured the Ottomans for five hundred years, preserved its language, its Church, and its identity when other nations would have been erased.
Today, Bulgaria is dismissed as peripheral, yet it holds a decisive position on the Black Sea and at the gates of the Balkans. It connects Europe to the Middle East, Russia, and Asia, and its territory has always been a prize for those who understood geography. Ignoring Bulgaria is ignoring the very hinge of southeastern Europe.
@chrisyerington@RyanAFournier Prosecution isn’t a good enough deterrent, not unless there is a complete overhaul of the justice and prison system, a slap on the wrist short time sentence and political empowerment upon release is not going to stop what’s happening
