@crawlings13 I've always said that the trads would endorse Pope Leo excommunicating JD Vance in exchange for him bringing back the Papal Tiara. They're so easily distracted by shiny things.
@WB_Baskerville I'm more than willing to believe that there are serious declines in literacy afoot, but being disinclined to read literary fiction seems like bad evidence for that.
@lionel_trolling Even most ww2 enthusiasts will mostly know that symbol in the form of a silver half-inch-square tangible insignia, not as a large black silhouette. I don't know if I'd immediately realize what it was even if I was sober, I'd probably just think "biker."
@lionel_trolling Why is it so implausible to imagine that he really did get it while super drunk thinking it was a generic skull and crossbones and only later (maybe not even that much later) found out which specific skull and crossbones it was?
@credenzaclear2 And the worst part is that an awful lot of people who should really know better have revealed themselves to be woefully naive about the realities of prostitution.
@AliceFromQueens See, I think he thought at first it was just a generic skull and crossbones, then relatively quickly found out what it really was, but thought of it more as "a crazy FUCKED UP story" to talk about with friends rather than a serious problem he needed to fix
@franzsherbert It's this weird kind of willful blinkerdness about the possibility of a wider world and new experiences. Sort of like when nineteen-year-olds swear ups and down that they'll never want to have kids at any point in their lives and their minds will never ever change.
Not for nothing, “lived experience” rhetoric has largely been appropriated by the right. Its mostly just a way to dismiss objective reality which has an awful lot of reactionary uses.
@WB_Baskerville It just seems to me that if you're going into a romantic setting thinking in terms of how much value you're getting out of the interaction rather than how much you like and are interested in the other party... what you're building is a transactional relationship.
@Lasermazer@avrilbradley23 Both. If it's a one way journey then there's just no return on investment. What do the people shooting the probes out into space get in return for this huge outlay of resources?
