Australia has split with the United States and Israel, choosing to recognise Palestinian permanent sovereignty over resources in occupied territories in a UN vote.

Australia's vote joined 155 other nations in supporting the UN committee vote, an issue the country has voted no on since 2003 according to the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council.

"The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) is deeply concerned by the Australian Government’s vote on two draft resolutions in the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee, and the Government’s apparent determination to further weaken Australia’s long-standing bipartisan position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," AIJAC said in a release following the vote.

Australia also voted to blame Israel for an oil incident that affected Lebanon during the 2006 war.
