James Dyson is 79 and the keynote GOAT right now.

Here’s his tight 7-minute (pretty convincing) pitch for the AI-powered CameraJet ($499) that brushes and flosses at same time.

Problem: average person brushes 45 seconds (under recommended 2 mins). Flossing is “archaic” and “toothbrushing technology hasn’t changed in 40 years”

The CameraJet solution:

▫️1mm camera that can identify plaque and find gaps between teeth (using 100k pixel macro lens)
▫️train ML algorithm on 500k mouth images to recognize plaque targets
▫️films while you brush using “gap optical targeting”
▫️dome-shape over camera so there’s visibility even as it sprays
▫️camera takes 28 images per second and operates slightly out of sequence of toothbrush motion (oscillating 58,000x a minute)
▫️water jet spray has to be conical shape so that it can remove all plaque (competitors use needle jet which don’t get full coverage)
▫️created a “proxy plaque” to test device
▫️anti-gravity water tank so there is the same water pressure at any angle you brush (competing water flossers don’t have this)
▫️video recording that rates brushing sessions and provides tutorials on how to improve brushing

This would be overkill for most but we let it slide with Dyson: “[We] rethought oral care from first principles using vision, fluid dynamics, formulation science, connectivity and AI software to solve a problem that’s been accepted for far too long.”

$499. It stares at your teeth 28 times a second, finds the gaps you always skip, and fires mouthwash into them in a tenth of a second.

You just brush and it does the part everybody lies about doing.

The future of dental care is a tiny jet engine in your mouth, and of course it’s Dyson.
