James Brock poured muriatic acid into this pool as black swimmers invited by white guests at his motel staged a protest after MLK was arrested for “trespassing” on the property (the “swim-in” was planned by MLK & others). The acid wasn’t enough to harm anyone (one of the swimmers even drank it to prove the point), but cops jumped in to arrest & beat up some swimmers when the acid didn’t work. The motel was forced to integrate, got firebombed by the Klan & eventually James went bankrupt & the motel was torn down. Crazy story.
