The majority of our visual field, wherever humans are, is usually entirely filled by an uncountable number of rectangles. our current subconscious purpose is often to make more. i wonder if AI enabled design of everything will lessen them enough to make them countable
Given how common at least cellular life seems to be in the Project Hail Mary universe, could potential book sequel material be taumoeba delivery to all those star systems that had astrophage but could not yet for whatever reason save themselves @andyweirauthor ? would also be interesting to meet life that didn’t mind astrophage (and maybe we could even meet life that proves Ryland’s non-water idea true)
Again want to propose the great DST-standard time compromise: instead of falling back 1 hour/springing forward 1 hour, we split the difference this coming fall and shift clocks back only 30min and then never change again. defeats major downsides of choosing only DST or standard
We are better than this. We can enforce our laws without this chaos and federal agents killing people in the streets.
I’m going to do everything I can to stop Trump’s deployment of federal law enforcement against American cities. That starts with voting no on DHS’s budget this week.
@maxhodak_ tah is a good example! definitely more difficult without easy maintenance, but we also wouldn’t put a donor heart transplant outside with redirected veins/pa/aorta. do you see a path for fully implantable at all or is that only for a biological/without mechanical parts solution?
@maxhodak_ longer plan for implantable modular system? potential filter replacement etc with something akin to implantable ports? if going for a backpack system, will need to mostly solve port infection risks anyway so why not aim for full implantable from the beginning?
fair point! the question is then is does a flash frozen glass brain contain higher resolution structures or actual frozen molecular states of things like neurotransmitters that a sliced dead brain in fixation chemicals would not or that are not visible in living brains with CT/MRI? I think that answer is almost certainly yes, and I’m sure that’s what they’ll find out as they get into analyzing this one
Universal/full brain bci is not possible without a full connectome map. a preserved glass brain like this is an amazing way to attempt to identify a partial connectome of this individual. Knowing the general anatomy/sticking electrodes in the cortex is not the same thing as understanding a full connectome
New minimally-invasive neural interface can be placed almost anywhere in the brain through a single spinal tap. Fascinating @natBME study shows that flexible electrodes can be docked in the subarachnoid spaces of the brain by navigating a microwire inserted through a lumbar puncture.
That feeling you get when you look out the window and realize you’re almost home! T-4 days until we land in the Moon. Blue Ghost will reach her final destination no earlier than 2:34 am CST on March 2. We’ll start the joint livestream with @NASA at 1:20 am CST, approximately 75 minutes before we touch down on the surface.

Science Corp. has created its own line of neurons that it's fusing with an animal's existing neurons via an implant, and we may end up with monkeys playing poker. How's your Thursday? https://t.co/IrkzreRUBd
@ashleevance Wow right off the bat BCI documentary! of which company? science corp/ neuralink/ motif/ synchron/ other? also, should definitely recruit @jasonjoyride if he's at all interested

brain ventricles seem a great option to put implant components/electrodes for brain machine/computer interface no? could hypothetically access any area with some navigation/tiny needles, seems destined that we fill these cavities with components (& still maintain csf flows)
@ryantanaka installation of tiny telephone lines into the brain so that we can listen and talk to brain cells directly! if we connect the lines to certain areas of the brain, we can let people who are paralyzed control devices like phones or computers
