Director General Dennis Yen-Feng Lei attended the opening ceremony of the 38th Board of Directors and Supervisors Joint Meeting of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America on November 17. He delivered remarks alongside Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang, who led a cross-party delegation of legislators, Overseas Community Affairs Council Minister Chia-Ching Hsu, President Eugenia Henry, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, Michigan State Senator Stephanie Chang, and Mayor Kevin Coleman of Westland, Michigan.
In his remarks, Director General Lei highlighted that Taiwan and the United States are the best partners in shared values, security, technology, and economic and trade relations. He emphasized that Taiwan is America’s steadfast and unwavering ally. Last year, Taiwan’s investment in the United States grew by an impressive 40%. Taiwanese businesses in North America have played an indispensable role in strengthening Taiwan’s position in U.S. supply chains and creating more job opportunities in the United States.
Director General Lei also reviewed the remarkable achievements of the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America over the past year. These accomplishments include hosting the Global Business Forum and the U.S.–Canada Investment Expo in Taiwan to promote Taiwan–U.S. talent exchange; actively raising funds for humanitarian relief efforts such as the Florida hurricane disaster, Los Angeles wildfire relief, and Texas flood assistance—truly embodying the “Taiwan Can Help” spirit; and promoting Taiwan’s participation in the United Nations through advertising in New York’s Times Square, demonstrating the principle advocated by Minister Lin Chia-lung that “Everyone can be a diplomat.”
Director General Lei further commended that Taiwan Day events at Major League Baseball games have been hosted throughout the Midwest, including Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis. These events brought Taiwan’s passion for baseball into mainstream American society and helped showcase Taiwan to the world. Notably, the June 28 Taiwan Day hosted in the Chicago White Sox home arena marked the first such event in the Midwest, which is especially meaningful.
Finally, Director General Lei emphasized that as Taiwan goes, so goes the world and the stronger Taiwan means the better world and the greater American, and wished the joint meeting great success. The more than 500 Taiwanese business representatives from chapters across North America were all inspired and shared Director General Lei's enthusiasm.
