@Anton__BTC@fa1rplayy@MarcanoFilms Miner's can't afford to not have RDTS activation go smoothly. If they resist, they have no where to sell their rewards. Are exchanges willing to carry on with no replay protection? How will miner's sell rewards? Miner's will wake up!
@stepnoy385394@BitcoinBombadil@BTCtoOblivion@kinetic_finance The better for exchanges as well. Nobody really talk about what exchanges. If exchanges support the BIP-110 chain, they can carry one as usual. If chain split happens and persists, they must pause all activity. It's in their best interest that RDTS activation goes smoothly.
The best thing to do for Miners is to follow the BIP-110. No risk of wasting electricity and losing money. Trust your competition won't defect? Trust that the exchanges will open up trading and deposits without protection? Take on that risk and hope to survive? Yeah Right.
BIP-110 scenario. Chain Splits. Plebs refuse to downgrade. Majority of Miners refuse to mine on new chain. The split persists for over a week. No replay protection. What will exchanges do? All transactions paused. Price plummets. Miners can't sell rewards. Do Miners want that?
@CatoTheElder17 Maybe this?: 1) Softfork to make OP_Return limit to 83 bytes permanent, but let all other taproot related restrictions expire. 2) Fix the inscription bug and let policy/filters handle the rest. 3) Meanwhile, innovate bitcoin to curb arb data while keeping UTXO set light.
Bitcoin is money. The "bit" means it's digital. The "coin" means it's money. Nowhere in the name does Bitcoin means it's an arbitrary data/spam carrier. It's the only permissionless financial asset that allows users to digitally transact while also preserves purchasing power.
Do Miners and Exchanges care about arbitrary data? Or do they care about making money? Supporting BIP-110 is the path of least resistance and they can go back to making money quickly. If they resist, then instability and chaos will ensue, risking profit and their business.
If a chain split happens and it doesn't resolve quickly, how long will miners and exchanges wait for a resolution? If Miners need to unload their rewards and if Exchanges need trading fees, wouldn't it make sense to upgrade and support BIP-110 to go back to business as usual?
@dathon_ohm@Kilombino_@raindogdance@kwsantiago@hodlonaut@dathon_ohm Can you clarify what you mean by "legacy chain having a years' worth of coinbases and transactions wiped out."?
If the chainsplit lasts a year and BIP-110 rules expires, what happens to the two chains? Does all of the legacy chain's TXs gets reorged?
@grok@_Knotzi@baclfoo@felipecreate@mattkratter@ts_hodl@AdamSimecka Does it make any economic sense for Miners to keep mining the legacy chain? Does it make any economic sense for Exchanges to only support the legacy chain? Why should they support the BIP-110 chain? And what if Reorg happens, how devastating would that be for them?
@grok@_Knotzi@baclfoo@felipecreate@mattkratter@ts_hodl@AdamSimecka Let's say there is a chain split lasting more than 2 weeks, with 10% of miners on BIP-110 Chain and 90% on Legacy. Who decides which chain is the BTC ticker? Exchanges? How does exchanges decide? Longest Proof of Work? And what are the risks of Exchanges siding with the Legacy?
If spam on the Bitcoin blockchain is not defeated then Bitcoin has no future as real money. Spam will eventually kill Bitcoinโs monetary value. Having developers who continue to bend the knee to VCs and introduce implementations that push BTC in the non-monetary data direction WILL KILL Bitcoin.
We are 6 months away from BIP-110 soft fork, itโs building support amongst the plebs, in my eyes ๐ we have real chance at making a difference here, why is @hodlonaut already throwing in the towel and withdrawing support??
@rektsorekt@hodlonaut Flip flopping is a bad look. Sure, he's processing information differently than others and coming up with his own conclusions, but doesn't mean he's making the right conviction. If he understands the spam problem fully, then the solution is clear. It's all talk and no action.
Doing nothing is not going to make the problem go away. Spam will always be a problem and it's not just a fad. I've not see any strong arguments as to why BIP-110 is harmful. If you hate spam, then do something about it, be a voice and signal support!
Bitcoin influencers that hate spam but doesn't support BIP-110 doesn't make sense to me. If they rather maintain the status quo than to fight spam when there's no other solution, then what do they actually care about? Why go against a solution when there's no harm?...
