Did they also mention that Air Zim birds were put on Europe Safety Flight list and they couldn't service the Harare-London route thus having a leased aeroplane for that purpose?
I have seen and read many articles about Air Zimbabwe’s return to London Gatwick after 14 years. Unfortunately, many of them are little more than emotional ranting, not journalism rooted in facts, data, and analysis.
As a journalist, my first question would be; How much is Air Zimbabwe paying to wet lease the Airbus A330 from the Spanish carrier Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas? The airline has confirmed it is using an Airbus A330 under a wet-lease arrangement from Plus Ultra.
The next step would be to compare that figure with what other airlines pay for similar Airbus A330 wet leases, whether through Qatar Airways, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, or any other carrier operating comparable ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) arrangements.
That is where the real story lies.
Everything else is largely opinion, speculation, or emotional commentary. Journalism is about uncovering information that is not already in the public domain.
If a Zimbabwean journalist wants to stand above the average, they should find out how much Air Zimbabwe is paying for this wet lease, compare it with prevailing market rates for similar Airbus A330 wet leases, and determine whether Zimbabwe is getting value for money.
That is the story. The rest is just noise.
Unpopular opinion: Jonah didnt survive three days in the belly of the great fish—
it wasnt a refuge; it was a tomb.
Most people picture Jonah chilling in the belly of the great fish for three days perhaps humming a psalm or two. Thats not what the text describes.
Read Jonahs own prayer from inside the fish:
“I called out to the Lord, out of my distress…
From the belly of Sheol I cried and you heard my voice…
The waters closed in over me to the point of death;
the flood surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head;
I went down to the roots of the mountains;
the earth with its bars closed upon me forever…
yet You brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.” (Jonah 2:2–6)
He prays from Sheol—the Old Testament place of the dead. He says the waters took him “to the point of death.”
Seaweed wrapped around his head and the earth barred him in forever.
Thats not a guy whos just uncomfortable. Thats a man describing his own death.
So yes—Jonah died in the belly of the fish.
The miracle wasnt that he survived for three days.
The miracle was that God raised him from the dead when the fish vomited him onto dry land.
And thats exactly the sign Jesus pointed to:
“But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves a sign; and so no sign will be given to it except the SIGN OF JONAH the prophet; For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12:39-40)
Jesus didn’t say “as Jonah lived in the fish…”
He pointed to Jonahs death and resurrection as a sign of His own.
Jonah died. God raised him.
Jesus died. God raised Him.
Thats the parallel—not a three day aquarium stay.
The sign of Jonah isnt survival.
It’s resurrection.🙏
