I've been working on a new standard for building REST APIs called HyperMap.
It supports one thing that no others do: code-on-demand. This means your API can run JavaScript or WASM on the client, turning static resources into dynamic, interactive objects.

The core story of English housing policy:
- We nationalised the land supply in 1947
- The govt deigned to permit construction on a small fraction of it
- Scarcity drove up land prices
- We now argue bitterly over whether to expand that small fraction by an even smaller fraction
One area that 80s/90s Apple absolutely owned was the _worldbuilding_ aspect of OS design. You look at these screenshots and you feel like you _are_ in some place.
nobody will remember:
- your salary
- how “busy you were”
- how many hours you worked
people will remember:
- if you hopped on a quick call
- when you hopped on a quick call
- how many quick calls you hopped on
- how you made them feel when you hopped on a quick call

Another small detail but one I think feels really nice: when resizing Ghostty, a native UI overlay shows the grid dimensions. Other terminals show grid dimensions on resize but none (afaik) use a native GUI widget to do it. I think it feels much nicer! This works on Linux too.

More and more apps are single-window and not documented based and that upsets me. I've noticed this more with Electron but not confident enough to single them out. Example: I want to view multiple channels at once in Discord. Please, make your apps support multiple windows!
Fascinating study on the health effects of sun exposure and vitamin D. Based on 360,000 people in the UK biobank, adjusted for other factors, users of sunbeds were 23% less likely to die of cardiovascular disease and 14% less likely to die of cancer.

"Nobody was supposed to see 'El Mariachi' (1992). I was just trying to hone my filmmaking skills, maybe sell it to the Spanish home video market. I didn’t figure anyone would pay seven dollars to see a $7,000 film."
--- Robert Rodriguez
Don't love this phrase 'anti-immigration protestors' used on the BBC just now. They're not really anti-immigration. It's not like they're targeting Canadians. They're racists. And these are not protests. They're attempted pogroms.
Many people have been recognizing that AGI won't be coming from mere scaling of current tech, and that generative AI has been severely overhyped. This is all true. But those people often conclude, "therefore AI is not going to be transformative -- this is a nothingburger". Absolutely not.
AI (both current and near-future tech) *will* transform nearly every industry, and we're still only in the very first steps of that process. Generative AI may be a bubble, but AI is going to be bigger in the long run than what almost all observers currently anticipate.
