This tweet merits some factual corrections though.

The impression being painted is that the INC/INDIA escaped persecution while CJP didn’t.

RG, PGV, Com Brittas, Mahua Moitra, countless activists- many who were part of yesterday’s march have suffered assault.

Beaten up, dragged through the streets and more.

The CJP trio was not on the streets on July 20, not on the streets on the 10th (detained) 11th (not detained).

They weren’t out there yesterday (12th) to find out if there will be assault.

The critique against CJP is *not* that they aren’t the one true heroic org.

It is that they have been disorganized, reckless and ordinary protestors have had to pay a price for it.

Protestors who turned up after CJP gave a call.

The CJP keeps side tracking that criticism by saying don’t divide stay united.

सड़क पर प्रदर्शनकारियों को पीटा गया। एक लड़की को सरेआम पीटा गया, उसके कपड़े खींचे गए। ऐसे मामलों में भारतीय न्याय संहिता की कई गंभीर धाराएँ लागू हो सकती थीं।

लेकिन आरोपी गिरफ्तारी के अगले ही दिन बाहर आ गए? कानून की किताब कबाड़ी को तो नहीं बेच दी?

अगर किसी लड़की के साथ सरेआम मारपीट हुई और उसके कपड़े खींचे गए, तो जवाबदेही तय करने में इतनी ढिलाई क्यों?

और अगर आरोपी अगले ही दिन बाहर आ गए, तो जनता को यह जानने का हक है कि उन्हें जमानत किस आधार पर मिली, किन धाराओं में मामला दर्ज हुआ।

कानून का राज सिर्फ प्रदर्शनकारियों को रोकने के लिए नहीं होता। कानून की कसौटी यह भी है कि वर्दी में या वर्दी के बाहर कोई भी व्यक्ति अपनी ताकत का दुरुपयोग करे, तो उसके खिलाफ निष्पक्ष कार्रवाई हो।

Observations on AISA’s Neha Bora today in opposition protest march in Indian capital:

As thousands gathered in central New Delhi, where LoP Rahul Gandhi led MPs in a bus, left student leader Neha Bora got a window seat … much to crowd’s fanfare.

Her presence had an overwhelming impact on all protestors alike, including youth Congress members. Protestors were genuinely excited to get her glimpse.

When Rahul got atop a truck, Neha was among first to join him and Priyanka Gandhi (alongside Akhilesh Yadav).

Rahul gave her the mic to lead slogans in the opposition’s protest march.

That’s a place that even long-time MPs do not get, several Congress leaders walking on road told us.

Congress clearly keeping Neha close, reading her growing popularity on the ground.

I was sitting just a few metres away from the Supreme Court when the BJP brought these women for its women protest today.

Back-to-back 40-50 premium AC buses full of women arrived within 30 minutes there.

Their protest call was also named #DelhiChalo.

Most of the women sitting in those buses appeared to come from very poor backgrounds.

It’s crazy to me that a party claiming to be the biggest in the country has to pay people to attend its protests.

And even those protesters are cooking Modi. 😭😭

Rahul Gandhi shared Neha Bora of (AISA), video at his press conference. Not one video of CJP’s leadership. And no, RG isn’t petty. If those three had actually been out protesting, their videos would have been shown too.

First protest: nowhere to be seen. Second protest: conveniently arrested. Meanwhile, students, activists and leaders from other parties were out on the streets, facing the crackdown instead of hiding behind social media narratives.

And this is where CJP’s leadership needs a reality check.

Rahul Gandhi will NEVER ask you to do something he wouldn’t do himself. He asks people to hit the streets? He leads from the front. Police detain protesters? He puts himself on the line too. Priyanka Gandhi, the leadership, cadre and workers show up. They don’t push ordinary workers into the firing line and watch from a safe distance.

That’s the difference between leadership and performative activism.

RG doesn’t need to manufacture a revolutionary image. He has repeatedly put himself on the line. Meanwhile, some people seem more interested in managing the optics of an arrest than actually standing with protesters when it counts.

You can launch a political movement in five months. You cannot manufacture a track record of courage in five minutes.

People remember who showed up. And they remember who didn’t.
