Got a new answering machine. The Western Electric model 1-B from 1955. Still had the original outgoing announcement. Sadly no incoming messages though. Its all tube and has a tone wheel like a B-3 organ for the beep. @evandoorbell@uncommnephemera@dmine45
@evandoorbell That's very interesting. Over the years of listening to your tapes (Oh goodness, its been nearly 15 years since I started listening) I noticed those very same differences of the PBX rings. It does seem to me that they are only 2 or 3 models, but with speed variances and options.
Got a fun new toy and brought it up on the dim-bulb tester. A 101B Generator. This one was made for PBX's but is effectively the same used in later 355 Steps. @evandoorbell
@evandoorbell https://t.co/JRmgfwmLRf it looks like these guys do, but without an account its only up for 24hr's. If you have a google account you can just share it from a drive link too. you just have to turn on the "anyone with a link can view" box.
@uncommnephemera@evandoorbell I haven't gotten it to work yet unfortunately. I have powered it up, but it just kinda sits there. I have attempted to feed it MF's but it either can't hear or i'm doing something wrong
@evandoorbell Evan, you will literally not believe what I have in my collection. I nearly jumped out of my chair when I heard the DCO guy mention the model number.
I'm working on getting it working and have been having great difficultly because I have no manual. The demo helps a lot!
The internet archive needs our help. It's once again being threatened by record labels who don't give a crap about preservation. Please take a moment to check out this link. https://t.co/HQHVqdnrie
All packed and onto the road I go. See you at @sdf_pubnix ‘s Interim Computer Festival this weekend in Seattle’s old Rainier brewery (3100 Airport Way s.)
@evandoorbell by pure chance while researching something else I found a paper that describes how the Northwestern Bell Traffic Rate System works from 1966. Page 284 of this PDF https://t.co/oKVp20w9z7
