Standardized tests have no place in elementary education. Because testing becomes the focus of education instead of learning. We take away the fun and excitement of learning, playing, exploring, & creating. We create test takers instead of problem solvers and innovators.
1st grade teacher Abby Turbak was sitting on the floor with her students when @TSandersonSD named her Watertown School District's first ever winner of a $25,000 South Dakota #MilkenAward. Hear those cheers? That's #ArrowPride!

@burgessdave Author of Teach Like a Pirate has helped me see teaching with a different outlook. He asks you to explore your passions and immerse yourself into giving your students a safe place to grow together. So many great new teacher tools! #eled360@drnashscience@DSUteach
Math manipulatives are so important in a classroom. I love these manipulative for fractions because students can see exactly how fractions can be broken down. They are perfect to be hands-on yet educational. @kevinsmithsd#dsumath
When introducing a new math manipulative, itβs so important to provide time to explore, play, and discover with no task attached. Learning is actually happening! I always end with βWhat did you notice?β@FiresideRVS
Good teaching can look many different ways. I think it is vital for teachers to focus on more than standards and content, but also on how to bring positivity into your classroom and into your students' lives. Kindness is key! #dsumath@kevinsmithsd
Spending a few minutes each week on acts of kindness and stories of all the good there is in the world was the most powerful thing that I ever did in my classroom. It changed my life, my teaching and my students for the better. #teachkindness
