A first taste into the ACES results!
Thank you @BirdLife_SA for this opportunity to share our findings and our use of the remarkable SABAP2 dataset!
Available in the Sept/Oct 2024 issue of the African Birdlife magazine🐧
Thrilled to share my first publication in Scientific Reports!
Our study focused on comparing morphometric responses of two congeneric species, the native Cape and the non-native house sparrows to increased urbanisation in SA.

Had a great opportunity to introduce #theACESproject to some brilliant and bright young minds from the Jeppe Boys Wilderness Club!
We hope to have sparked a little bit more of an interest and curiosity in the #culturalvalue of #birds in South Africa.

The support, response, and efforts received while running these surveys has been phenomenal!
Thank you to everyone and every organisation who has contributed to our research project either by responding to, or sharing and distributing our survey links.

One of our goals when designing this project is how your location can influence how you perceive #birds.
For more information on our project, you can check out the @the_birding_life podcast, S8 Ep 2.

#CitizenScience#birds#ecosystemservices
Everyone can able to assist in research in some way or form through #citizenscience. #theacesproject was designed to harness citizen #culturalvalues of #birds in their environments
Assist us by answering our survey:
https://t.co/1OiqGN50P4
#birds are an important part of our environment, representing a key taxon for quantifying CES due to the broad #diversity and distribution of birds - allowing most people to have adequate access and experiences with them, even in the #urbanenvironment
All #ecosystemservice types have great value in our environments, but #culturalecosystemservices have a stronger link to personal values.
This adds to the uniqueness of how these services can be perceived, but also increases the difficulty of its quantification.
We are so happy and grateful with all the responses to our surveys that have been coming in these past few days!
We are also so glad to see how many of our respondents have enjoyed the survey!
