Many of us stopped using Wazirx after no withdrawals from past 2 years but Nischal found another way of doing chindi chori:

💯 .. the *core* database engine itself is a masterpiece of computer science wizardry.

But then you zoom out one level and the surrounding ecosystem is *just as wild*:

- DataFusion / Arrow: turning query execution into embarrassingly parallel, zero-copy, SIMD-vectorized madness

- Hudi, Delta, Iceberg: inventing time-travel, ACID, and schema evolution on top of immutable cloud storage that was never designed for any of this. Incremental processing, copy-on-write vs MOR, automatic compaction, Z-ordering

- Parquet + predicate pushdown + dictionary encoding + RLE + all the file-format tricks that squeeze 10x better analytics performance out of the same hardware

Indeed a wonderful time to be part of the database ecosystem ..

Query planning → stats + optimization
Replication → distributed systems
Authentication → security
WAL → fault tolerance
Storage → file systems + caching
Compression → information theory
Deadlock detection → graph theory

Databases encompass tons of interesting software engineering problems.
