China’s crackdown on democracy will not be ignored by the world. More than 50 prominent democratic advocates were arrested today in Hong Kong. This is unacceptable, HKers’ rights are human rights.
In Hong Kong, the authorities are right now arresting all the democratic nominees who participated in the primaries — 50 candidates! Hong Kong has just become the frontline of China’s new totalitarian state.
1. The current political crackdown is not only limited to the winners of the 2020 Pro-Democracy Primary Elections, nor is it limited to the Resistance Camp formed after the Primaries. This is a large-scale liquidation involving 52 democrats across different political spectrums.
BREAKING:
HK activists & politicians are arrested under "subversion" due to their participation in pro-democracy camp's primary election.
When one of the most critical Senate races is ongoing in the US, in HK, participation in elections could lead to life-long imprisonment.
The 50 people arrested this morning are the most vocal pro-democracy voices left in Hong Kong.
However, as they are arrested under the NSL, whether bail will be granted to them remains unknown.
Looking forward to response from Team @JoeBiden & the EU.
One day
One day #XiJinping & his little morally retarded henchwoman #CarrieLam will be overthrown
One day the perpetrators of crimes against humanity will be brought to justice
One day #HongKong, #Uyghurs, #Tibet & all #China will be free
No doubt about it. History says so.
Winning an election is subversion of the state.
Ok then.
A reminder that we signed a treaty promising to protect #HongKong from stuff like this. Where are those promises now?
In response to Hong Kong's political crackdown, I urge the European Parliament to halt the EU-China investment deal and EU to sanction China&HK officials who are responsible to the arrests.
#Retweet if you agree MEP should VETO the bill and EU should act.

It has been over 50 days since we lost 12 of our brothers and sister.
We demand their access to lawyers, medication & contact with family.

A small group of dissidents climbed into a speedboat and set off from Hong Kong in August, in a daring attempt to rush 400 miles to safety in Taiwan. Their detention has become a new focus of Hong Kong's protesters. https://t.co/KfLrpkYqb8
1/ I was being threatened by someone who claims to be a civil servant of the HKSAR to stop my activism if I still wanna go home.
Since @DavidJRMissal and I filed the petition (https://t.co/XmM0ygytD4), I have been receiving more of these texts.
#HongKongers:
I think this says it all
From my heart
And I'll fight for the day when every person in #HongKong can once again live in freedom & peace & every person now exiled or banned can go back safely & freely
That's my vision - and I'm sure it's yours

Another view of the same incident, in which undercover police disguised as protestors drag a demonstrator by the legs, as other officers pepper spray a crowd of journalists. Plainclothes HK police officers regularly arrest protestors but rarely with this brutality. Vid: Telegram.
Guess the young girl is just terrified of the #HongKongpolice (and rightfully so) so she attempted to run away. Maybe not the smartest decision but using excessive force to tackle the girl is absolutely uncalled for.
