“‘I know we cannot,’ he said, yawning. ‘Nevertheless, we will.’
Westward into the sea the last rose strokes of sunset painted the sky.”
—Avram Davidson, The Phoenix and The Mirror. Ace Book, 1969.
The more I read from Avram Davidson, the more I recognize that there is a certain writing style which is characteristic of people who have studied the Talmud and also write fantasy and Science Fiction. I’m thinking of writing an essay about this.
In other words, while Davidson is a little known author to many, I consider him a more skilled writer than Joyce. He's sometimes a difficult writer, but his difficulty pays off.
