I was never taught America is great because it’s richer/bigger. I heard about the light bulb, airplanes, movies, the telephone, rock, jazz, basketball, the Internet, nuclear power, Ali-Frazier, Thoreau, King, Lincoln, Twain, Chandler, the Hoover Dam and the Fender Stratocaster…
To the Americans:
I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.
And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:
You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.
This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.
Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.
This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.
But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.
This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.
And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:
Thank God for the United States.
Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.
Long may your admirable country dominate the world.
Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.
May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.
Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill.
Thank God for the USA.
Happy 250th.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
If a foreigner hates America, fine. But why then become a citizen here? Better yet, why would the US allow someone to become a citizen who hates the country?
So it seems like the ordinary folks of all these countries—Europe, Japan, South Africa—like each other very much. Lies from our elites keep us from enjoying our own and each other’s culture as much as we should.
When I go to Germany, I want German culture. When I go to Ireland, I want Irish culture, when I go to Japan, I want Japanese culture.
I don’t want everywhere to be the same with enforced multiculturalism that feels like no particular place.
I know you guys are used to decades of GOP establishment groveling for your approval. That era is over. You are not special. You do not deserve some special deference for being TV reporters.
We are done letting you set false narratives and I am glad that the president is teaching Republicans how to push back and refuse to accept your framing.
A few years ago, I tried to help out a family member who was having trouble, alternating between renting and homelessness. He had a job, and I told him I’d help him with his finances.
When we met up, he was wearing a new pair of Jordans. When I delved into his spending, I found he was renting all his furniture, his TV, and a video game system from Rent-A-Center. He ate fast food every day.
I explained to him why that was such a bad idea. I told him how I get most of my furniture from Goodwill and garage sales. Told him rich people don’t wear new Jordans.
I even showed him how much his money would be worth in 30 years if he invested the money he was giving to Rent-A-Center.
His response? “Sorry, I need nice furniture and I need to look good.”
These are the people blaming the rich for their problems.
There’s no reason a deep red state like Ohio should have lawless Leftist enclaves like Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland.
Ohio should pass a constitutional amendment (can pass with 51% of the popular vote) that ALL citizens of the state can vote for the leadership of the 3 biggest cities, including mayor and city council.
All citizens use these cities, they travel through these cities, they conduct commerce with these cities, and they help fund these cities. They’re often victims of the lawlessness in these cities. They should have a right to vote for the leadership of these cities.
Open up the vote to all citizens, and our big cities will get cleaned up almost overnight.
@Joshpberg@Heminator No journalist who cares about clarity and facts should ever use the ridiculous phrase “sex assigned at birth.” Sex is not assigned, unless you mean by God. And it is frequently known well before birth.
It is absolutely infuriating that you have American families, especially in the Rust Belt, who have been struggling to put food on the table. Meanwhile, our federal government has imported a permanent sponge class that takes millions of dollars out of the local economy and sends whatever is leftover from their unearned, jobless lifestyles and sends it overseas to the benefit of foreigners.
It needs to end and it needs to end now.
