🧵My little brother and his girlfriend have Down syndrome. They have run their very own food truck together for the last three years. Here are a few things I have learned about the important role employment plays in the lives of those with DS. 1/5
Individuals with DS bring a positive vibe with them everywhere they go. This carries over with them to the workforce. Coworkers and customers are blessed to interact with them.
Every child should have a classmate with Down syndrome in their classroom.
This week we visit with @BradyMurrayCFP from @RODSHeroes, an organization meant to inspire families to answer the call to adopt children born with Down syndrome and other special abilities.
@ianmiles 👋 Believing “Mormon” here. To add a little nuance to the conversation, here is a direct quote from the Book of Mormon.
“He (God) inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness… black and white, bond and free, male and female… All are alike unto God.”
@llmunro Free will.
When both a biological parent and an adopter willingly agree to participate in the adoption process without any external factors, this is not only ethical, but a miracle.
You can say it’s unfair. You can say it’s difficult. But it is not unethical.
President Joe Biden has made it a priority to improve long-term care options for older adults and people with #disabilities. But low #Medicaid reimbursement rates and workforce shortages remain a threat. https://t.co/z39CMFfkZV
People with Down syndrome need to be included in the classroom and in the workplace. The opposite of inclusion is segregation. Do not segregate our community.
