He got a job with Indian Oil Corporation as a sales officer.

On November 19 2005 a petrol pump owner shot him dead outside his office.
He was 27 years old.
The killers were convicted. Sentenced to life imprisonment.
His parents did not get compensation for 15 years.
His college created the Manjunath Shanmugam Trust in his name to fight corruption.
Some men die because they refused to look the other way.
India forgets them too quickly.

In 2010, the Dictionary of Medical Biography by the Royal Society of Medicine listed 1,100 of the world's greatest medical breakthroughs. Only three names from Kolkata made the list: Sir Ronald Ross, Upendranath Brahmachari, and Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay.
That same year, Robert Edwards received the Nobel Prize for the development of IVF. Had he been supported rather than destroyed by his own countrymen, Dr. Mukhopadhyay might have shared that podium.
Today, 45 years later, one wonders if we have truly learned our lesson. How many more "Subhash Mukhopadhyays" are we losing to silence and ego?
