The #SOCALTECHFair was a mess. Day1 I got there at 6 AM, but there was already a 💯+ line in spite of the rules. The #AMD promo was a scam, no mention of stock or the plinko game + #iBuypower gave tickets to their booth that weren’t honored. Result: $20+gas+6hr waits for nothing.
I was at the @iBUYPOWER#SOCALTECHFair earlier and lmao what a fuck!ng scam
Yikes
Barely any trade in inventory for the amd promotion and it wasn’t a straight trade in, had to win a game
Awful line management and just an overall bad time
L of the weekend
#amdcares@AMDGaming you really shouldn't have people dragging their CPUs out of their machines for a slim chance at a combo if you don't have enough for at least the ones following the rules of the event. It was never stated it would be plinko for the combo either.
@AMDGaming@iBUYPOWER@JayzTwoCents line starts at 6am yet people are lined up long before that, tand slurp everything up while everyone else is stuck in line that got in line at 6. #amdcares only has 30 units on hand and then plinkos them, just raffle it at that point.
I got back from this and it was NOT worth it. They were NOT transparent about how the trade-in was ONLY through a game of plinko. Not stated anywhere, just "Bring your old CPU"
I was like 160th in line as well.
@JayzTwoCents@AMDGaming@iBUYPOWER@hytebrand#SOCALTECHFair
This is from the Attendee Guide for #SOCALTECHFair
Not a SINGLE mention of how the 9700X deal was part of the plinko board, just "While supplies last".
I am so utterly disappointed in the lack from transparency from @AMDGaming and it really soured the entire day.
I joked that they should have had a shipping container full of the stuff ready for all the demand. Not to mention their Twitter posts and attendee guide said "while supplies last" and not mentioning "Oh, by the way, you gotta play on a plinko board for a chance for it."
However, there were two major cons:
AMD putting it out on Twitter that anyone could get a Ryzen 9700X, an ASUS B650 Board, and Monster Hunter Wilds probably brought a lot of people in, but brought people willing to break rules and camp out to be the first one there.
people lining up hours before the allowed time and zero transparency on the cpu trade in
AMD never misses a missed opportunity #socaltechfair#socaltechscam
@AMDGaming .@LisaSu I have a concern that the @AMD@AMDGaming marketing team was not transparent about this promotion. Not only were they not transparent about the number of units was 40 units, but it was a lottery system through plinko. Neither was disclosed.
You guys changed it last minute to a game of plinko to win the honor of trading in for a CPU and motherboard, awful move there AMD
For anyone that sees this, they were only giving 40 of these combos today, and even then it wasn't guaranteed #socaltechfair#socaltechfair2025
@AMDGaming It’s a scam, only 30-40 available per day, people slept over night AND they false advertised and you have to win a game of Plinko to be eligible for the trade. HUNDREDS of people were here at 6am
Hey @AMD@AMDGaming let me express my strongest disapproval on the lack of transparency on the @iBUYPOWER SoCalTechFest event. You made everyone pay $20.00 to attend and you only had forty (40) units CPU to trade in. The only red I see is anger for shady tactics. (1/n)
Yes you can try to hide behind “while supplies last” but 40 units is nothing when you consider this entire @iBUYPOWER event is COMPLETELY sold out.
So congratulations - this isn’t the #socaltechfest. It’s a #socaltechscam
