It didn't have to be this way. Regular bde HQs, one reg & the rest TA battalions alongside a resourced system of reserves & mobilisation. After expending energy in pointless wars & letting the armoured fleet rot we now have nothing left of the '97 force except scraps. Too late to revisit that land concept? Possibly. But we never could have a continental army, we should have a global navy

My first instinct is to always argue for a balance of investment across the services, and arguments for a stronger navy that start with 'we are an island' are generally utter nonsense (and should be roundly ridiculed), but you cannot help to think of priorities
