In early 2023, I started, based on my long-term research as social anthropologist across northern Somalia (documented in many writings available e.g. here: https://t.co/Tfnp2ZIsso ), to comment on the war over Lasanod. I explained the background of the resistance of those living in the Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC) regions east of Burco against the Somaliland government, which had unleashed a brutal military attack on Lasanod, full of civilians, on 6 February 2023.
In the course of the exchanges online, especially on X, those defending Somaliland’s aggression became increasingly vicious, attacking me personally.
On 28 March 2023, @NimkoAli , CEO of @FiveFoundation and known women's rights activist, topped the attacks on me by engaging in libellous statements of the most horrendous kind. She supported the agression of the Somaliland government. She tried to shut me up as a critique of the violent politics she supported, which cost the lives of many in Lasanod and surroundings.
For a women’s rights defender, it was astonishing that she hurled around accusations like “paedophile” without proof. After a time of shock, pain and contemplation, I decided to hold her accountable. My lawyers filed a case against her in early 2024. It now, in mid-2026, concluded with her unreserved apology. She also is paying substantial compensation to me as part of the agreement we entered into.

No other people in Somalia as the NE people have been victim of so many colluding adversaries for their different reasons - the secessionist enclave, Puntland expanionist megalomaniac leaders, and HSM and his Irir Samaale ideologies, and, on top, a failed leadership of their own.

says verbally "I do not want to have 10 thousand Somalis in Germamy." He presents Somalis as burden. He uses them to differentiate in a crude rightwing extremist way between "good" and "bad" Muslims. Not sure what he knows really about Somalis or Muslims anyway. Last time I checked I saw Somalis in Germany being nurses, working for old people, in security, as cleaners, but also as students at universities. Seems Krah is just bullshitting and using Somalis as scapegoats to find his way out of an Islamophobic rabit hole in which he sits anyway, like basically all of AfD.@KotreLena

Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi vowed in a televised address on Thursday that his Iran-backed group would not wait for Arab governments to act against any Israeli foothold in Somaliland.
