There has to be an ecosystem that attracts youngsters towards Assamese. Rather than checking points off a to do list, renewed enthusiasm has to be created by mandating reading for pleasure in schools. Without an actual will to solve it, the problem will never go away. (n/n)

Another conspiracy, particularly seen among schools of non state board is elimination of Assamese from the curriculum paving way for increased Hindi usage even when they are officially English medium schools. Sadly is that this is sometimes celebrated by the parents 4/n

Lack of adequate job opportunities has pushed millennials out of Assam. The 2nd gen diaspora grows up among peers who do not speak Assamese, further reducing their exposure to the language. It also creates an apathy among such kids as to the actual utility of their mother tongue

Just saw pics of Durga Puja pandals in Assam where posters of #ZubeenGarg were put up as a tribute.

Out of curiosity, I asked a local if similar posters can be found at any mosque, he couldn’t point out even one.

Remember, Zubeen was protesting against CAA shoulder to shoulder with Muslims.

The kind of translations of Zubeen's songs I see online are so unnerving. How is পৰিচয় translated to 'meeting'? How is মায়া‌ translated to 'love'? গীতৰ অৰ্থ‌ই সলনি কৰি‌ পেলাইছে ৰাইজে।
