Great example of why I love the Maybe monad. You should never ever use null to denote anything but “nothing” nor should use error handling to control the flow of your code.

Unknown means unknown and using the right types forces you to handle it at compile-time.

Being in the middle of this outage, a few things I learned:

- Don't assume "unknown" means "good". Assume the opposite.

- The worst outages make for the best stories later.

- College students can eat SO MUCH. They were responsible for the majority of food orders during outage!

@mjshally I don’t know. I was using the “1000 most common words” dictionary for my solver, but not I need to use the most common 10k instead.

@muhammeetcan Because the whole point of initial screening is "do they have a good chance of getting through our process?" and nothing to do with how good you are.

They don't want to waste time and having those companies on your resume means you can indeed pass algorithmic interviews.

One of the hardest parts of the battle was explaining people back at home how hard it is/was. If you’re from a 3rd world country, people assume “you’ve saved yourself” by moving to US and everything is much better.

my friend is dating a guy who works for Google and i kid you not apparently they gave him a little high-tech at-home COVID test machine that he can use to get accurate results every day. while thousands of essential workers wait for hours in the cold to fight over tests
