On this Ai bogged timeline, I tell real stories in every piece, through immersive language.
Lately, I reviewed @ayodeforge's second novel, & the internal philosophy of Ray's paints.

This Friday, 5 June, at 7pm WAT, I’ll be joining Ikenna Okeh on X Spaces to discuss Nigerian traditions in diasporic writing.
Please join us. I’m looking forward to the conversation.
Join us on the 5th and 6th of June 2026 for two Twitter Spaces with the amazing @IkennaOkeh, @ayodeforge, @akazahrab, and @adedayoagarau as we discuss their works and
1) Nigerian Traditions in Diasporic Writing
2) Literary Longevity: Preserving books and Literary Communities
I now live in France and currently have unpublished manuscripts set here too. The challenge is that publishers often don’t know how to market books by an African writer set in a non-Anglophone environment.
A Nigerian writer setting their story in Lagos might simply be Lagosian by origin. Or Lagosian by birth. Or even by being raised there. (In my case, all three). And sometimes, honestly, it’s also because Lagos is a setting publishers already understand how to market and sell.

To be fair, I set my stories in Lagos because I am a Lagosian who spent the first thirty years of my life there. Although I no longer live there, I continue to write about Lagos from memory. Lagos is what I know ☺️

While we're still on this conversation about storytelling, can someone explain the Nigerian author's obsession with Lagos? 35 other states and Nigerian fiction keeps finding its way back to Lagos. We're tired please. Where are the Makurdi stories? Edo? Can somebody amuse us?

Deforge’s deft weaving of the love lives of Bolaji and Shola is art in service of social crusading that cuts at the root of teenage love and its potential catastrophic consequences.
