Nobody told me the hardest part of digital PR isn't the pitching.
It's the waiting.
Silence doesn't always mean rejection. Journalists are managing deadlines, stories and dozens of pitches at once.
Send it. Follow up once. Move on.

My first cold pitch was all about me.
What I offer, what I do, what I wanted from the conversation.
Nobody replied.
One sentence showing you actually paid attention to their brand will always outperform three paragraphs about your services.

Most people say they need more backlinks.
What they usually need is more visibility.
The best campaigns I've worked on weren't successful because of link volume. They worked because the right people started talking about the brand.

Early in my PR career, I thought good results would bring clients automatically.
What I didn't expect was how much of the job is communication.
The relationship matters just as much as the result.

Silence from a journalist doesn't always mean your story was weak.
It often means wrong moment, wrong person, or wrong news cycle.
I stopped taking it personally and started treating it as information.
Changed how I do outreach completely.
A great story isn't always enough.
I've had strong campaigns underperform and simple stories get picked up everywhere, just because the timing was right.
I now spend almost as much time on timing as I do on the pitch itself.
Sent dozens of pitches once and barely got a response.
Thought I needed to email more journalists.
Turns out the problem was sending the same story to everyone.
Cut the list down, changed the angle per publication, got more coverage than before.
Sometimes less is more.
Told myself I'd get back on the pitch today.
Opened my laptop "just to check one thing" instead.
Currently watching the @FIFAWorldCup in the background while I work, which is the closest I'm getting to football this weekend.
Anyone else's Saturday looking like this?
Trust isn't something you can build on demand.
It's built in the months before you need it, quietly, while it doesn't feel urgent yet.
The best time to start was months ago. The second best time is now.
Staying quiet doesn't protect your brand.
It just means someone else gets to fill the silence.
While you wait for the big story, competitors with less experience are out there telling theirs.
Founders often wait for the right moment to pursue media coverage.
There is no perfect moment.
The brands with strong editorial presence got there by starting before it felt necessary.
A strong point of view is usually all you need to get started.
You do not need a funding round or a product launch to get media coverage.
Editors want voices that add something useful to conversations their readers care about.
If your brand has a point of view, that is usually enough to start.
Publishing content on your own channels is useful.
But it is still just you talking about yourself.
When a publication your buyers already trust features your brand, that is a different kind of credibility.
That is what media coverage does that owned content cannot.
A buyer finds your SaaS brand and likes what they see. Then they Google you. Nothing comes up outside your own website. That silence creates doubt, even if your product is great.
Getting your brand mentioned in places your audience already trusts is how you close that gap.
