@shadesofgraham_ OBYGYN was easily my best posting in med school but I knew the love had to die. There is nothing like work-life balance. From fellow health workers to the patients, everything will test you. Bye bye to your life and your mental health. Only a strong support system can save you
Let's start by establishing EMR systems in healthcare facilities that will make quality data available to drive research and improve processes & outcomes, not this ridiculous idea. Looks like you just want to be seen to be doing something 🤷
Just this week there was a story of a guy that killed his male friend for 2k abi 5k, not one single person blamed the deceased or used it as a cautionary tale for men. When it's a woman they will start stupid talk, blaming the poor girl. May Justina's soul rest in peace 🙏
This is a lie abeg. I even have my baby book from years ago and there's a well documented growth chart. I agree that our data culture is poor and it's mostly cos we're still stuck using paper based recording tools but saying that there's no documentation is false
Abroad, at birth and during months of post-natal visits, they have a digital log book of your baby’s weight, height and others. They even match your baby’s dimensions with the aggregated data in the country.
Doctor could tell you ‘Your baby’s head size is in the 60th percentile. It’s below the average but it’s normal”
In Nigeria, to my shock, using the biggest hospitals, they simply check the weight on a faulty scale without documenting, to fulfill all righteousness.
We disdain data because we don’t know or have plans for it.
Writing these is like wasting time because who cares to synthesize the data?
For us here, our first contact with ‘inches’ is the inches on our heels.
Learning math, the radius and diameter is supposed to be taught with the bigger world in mind. How’s learning these numbers useful? To calculate what?
Our educational system has to not only include the premise of ‘what’ but of ‘why’ and ‘to what end’. This is the missing piece.
Doctor: Do you know Selena Gomez?
Me: Yeah. I listen to her music.
Doctor: Do you like her?
Me: Well, I’m indifferent…
Doctor: Okay. She has lupus too and she’s doing very well, achieving her dreams and excelling in her career
Me: *rolls eyes*
