Was I wrong?

So, my husband and I went to another town on Saturday for the funeral of a very close family member. Since we had to be away for most of the day, we asked our 17-year-old daughter if she could cancel her pool party with her friends and stay home to look after her 10- and 12-year-old siblings. She agreed without complaining, and we truly appreciated her willingness to help.

When we got back that evening, she asked her dad if he could cover the money she had already spent on the party since she had to cancel it because of us. My husband refused and told her that family helps each other without expecting to be paid. He said asking for money after helping was disrespectful, and I completely backed him because I believed we were teaching her the importance of putting family first.

It’s been over a week now, and she barely speaks to either of us. She says we always expect her to sacrifice while everyone else gets to enjoy their plans. Now I’m starting to wonder if we handled this the wrong way.
