Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, better known as Olu Jacobs, was a National Icon and a source of pride for Nigeria, whose pioneering role as an international thespian inspired many of our countrymen and women and drew many of today's stars into television and movie acting.
As children, we watched in awe as one of us starred in multiple British sitcoms and several global blockbuster movies, after his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, which first led him into theatre and from the stage to the silver screen, including a stint in the runaway British TV hit series, The Professionals, amongst many others. He had no contemporaries amongst his fellow citizens in this regard—absolutely none!
Along with his mentor, the late great Chief Hubert Ogunde, he was the real Grand Old Man of Nollywood, having become a global star as far back as the seventies and early eighties, with such movie credits as the Dogs of War, in which he started with the respected Christopher Walken (pictured), himself once a Bond Villain, as well as featuring in a Roman Polanski film, Pirates.
He also gladdened the hearts of many fans through his many commercials and adverts, which are now classics and bring up fond nostalgia.
Because of the modesty of Ogunde and Jacobs, and especially Mr Jacobs, who starred in hundreds of Nollywood movies, less deserving individuals have made pretences to their title of Nollywood Pioneers, but history makes their claims hollow.
We will miss this great African who has passed into ancestor-hood at the great age of 84. We pray that God Almighty grant the family he left behind succour, especially Auntie Joke Sylvia, his wife and fellow actor, and their children.
A grateful nation will miss Mr Jacobs, who, thankfully, got the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) title in his lifetime.
Adieu, great sir. Until we meet to part no more.

Sequel to my last post about Royal Air Maroc, the airline visited the NCAA Headquarters in Abuja, today, to clarify some of the issues, present their plan for the Nigerian route and for Nigeria as a nation.
Present in the meeting were the Deputy Head of the Morrocan Mission in Nigeria; the Country Manager of RAM; Abuja representative of the airline; and their lawyers.
On the NCAA side were yours truly and staff of the FO&A Unit as well as the SSA to the DGCA, and the GM P&E.
Royal Air Maroc, while defending some of their operational decisions, also acknowledged that they need to improve their services, and made a PowerPoint presentation showing their commitment to the Nigerian market.
From the NCAA perspective, we have assured the airline that there is no desire to antagonise RAM, as our mandate is to be relentless and professional in protecting the rights of both passengers and airlines.
We also urged the airline to do better with resolution timelines in compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
RAM not only assured us of doing better, they also unveiled a systemic, workable plan to give Nigerian passengers better travelling experiences going forward.
Recall that, in the last couple of years, the airline grew from 5 weekly operations into Nigeria, to 21 weekly flights into the Giant of Africa. We reminded the airline that, Morocco being a gateway country, a hub, RAM would continue to enjoy the patronage of Nigerian passengers, and those passengers deserve the best possible service.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with the country manager explaining why he was unable to attend the Authority's summons, and regretted the tone of his speech over the phone, something that was concerning at the time.
We will continue to hold all stakeholders accountable while protecting their rights, and we have pledged to support RAM to make their services better.
The NCAA was satisfied with the presentation, and will be monitoring the airline's operations for compliance.
The relationship between Nigeria and Morocco was made stronger today.
Nigeria is a large market with potential for expenential growth. Only a small percentage of Nigerians are flying, and the overall population of the country (roughly 250 million citizens) means that, if managed properly, Nigeria offers new possibilities compared to states that have maxed out their market.
Today's meeting between the NCAA and Royal Air Maroc is a major step towards improving the figures.
All thanks to the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and the DGCA, Capt. Chris Najomo, for approving this meeting.
This is not looking Good for APC.
The video many APC people are not sharing 😔😔.
Abia state governor, Chief Alex Otti yesterday said Peter obi is the only candidate he can support in the 2027 presidential election and there’s nothing President TINUBU can do about it..
Over 100 returnees from South Africa 🇿🇦 were each given 1 million naira support by the FG. There was no online noise about it. Incredible. Anyway, kudos to FG for saving Nigerians in South Africa from consistent xenophobic attacks.
Video 1: Peter Obi telling his friend amd showing the documents of his house in Craydon UK which he bought for $7m!
Video 2: Same Peter Obi saying the only place he owns a house is in Anambra state.
Peter "LOUSY LIAR" Obi please stop!!!!
Peter Obi claimed he turned around Anambra State education.
Fact Check: Shortly after Peter Obi left office in 2014, his successor, Governor Willie Obiano, shut down 486 of these centers under intense pressure from the West African Examination Council, which had threatened to delist Anambra schools over examination fraud.
"Peter Obi is an IPOB apologist. He came on air and said, 'he doesn't see any reason why they should persecute Nnamdi Kanu, what has he done?' Few weeks ago, some people were killed in the South East by ESN, it did not trend because you guys will not talk about that." — Prince Adini
