The Guardian’s Qatar player profiles left us… amused 🤣
Typos are understandable and even factual errors can happen when you’re on a tight deadline and not careful, but shouldn’t there be some fact checking?
At least ask some people who are actually in Qatar 🫣 A thread…. ⬇️

Back in Japan, stopped by the office, and did my laundry. Oh, my back still hurts.
I hadn’t read the original novel or the manga, but I binge-watched “Last Samurai Standing” (Ikusagami) up to episode 3. It’s great! The challenge, “kodoku” setup, the period setting, the pacing—everything works!
And above all, the characters are incredibly well-drawn. This is exactly my kind of show!
I binged “Ikusagami (Last Samurai Standing)” up through episode 6! It was so good. I love the Yamada Futaro × Squid Game kind of worldbuilding. The cutbacks between the Kodoku-game side, the organizers, and the government side all move with great pacing. And they don’t hesitate to kill off well-drawn characters (with a stacked cast) either.
The “Tsubaki Sanjūrō”-style directing moment made my heart skip. I really want to watch more. I need to know what happens next. Season 2 is probably still a long way off, so I’m thinking of reading the original novel.
I wondered how far the series goes into the source, so I picked up Shogo Imamura’s original volumes at the bookstore. It’s four volumes — “Ten,” “Chi,” “Jin,” and “Shin.” Looks like something I could get through quickly, but I’ve got a pile of books waiting for me through the end of the year, so maybe I’ll read them all together over New Year.
