John Harbaugh and the Giants are working to finalize an agreement to make him New York’s next head coach and, barring a setback, a deal is expected, multiple sources tell ESPN.
The deal is not final and contract numbers still are being negotiated. “There still is a lot to work through,” one source said.
But barring any setbacks, Harbaugh is ready to accept the Giants’ deal and the Giants are expected to hire him as soon as possible, per sources.
Mr. Mara, you’ve made Giants fans proud. Two Super Bowl rings, and while battling cancer, you’re doing everything you can to get this right—possibly your final head-coach hire. We don’t know how things will turn out with Harbaugh, but fans love the direction. Thank you, Mara ❤️
Say what you will about the Giants…
John Mara is in his 70’s… battling cancer,.. still fighting his fucking ass off for this organization
He will forever have my respect and admiration as a man and a leader
Last season was framed around sleepless nights for John Mara, whose Giants were mocked incessantly about the Saquon Barkley decision.
This game was about fighting back, and no one symbolizes that more right now in the eyes of his team than Mara himself, who has been open about his battle with cancer.
In giving Mara the game ball in the post game locker room, Brian Daboll said: "There's one tough son of a bitch in here. His name is John Mara."
In the aftermath of the Giants' stunning 34-17 victory, Mara will undoubtedly sleep well tonight. He's earned it.
