It seems to me that a nearly irremediable gap has developed between the high-level technologists and the rest of us as to what they're aiming at in big-picture terms. They increasingly behave as though explaining and arguing for their new paradigms is pointless and counterproductive; the public can't be expected to understand the programs, let alone consent to them on the optimum schedules.
