Fighting Continues Near Taung Maw U Naval Base as Myanmar Military Conducts Night Airstrike

Fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and Myanmar's Military Commission continues near the strategically important Taung Maw U Naval Base in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan, with the military carrying out a nighttime airstrike on the surrounding combat area earlier this week.

According to local sources, a Myanmar military fighter jet bombed areas around the frontline at around 9:00 p.m. on July 15, and residents in nearby communities reported hearing multiple explosions.

A local source told Narinjara News that the airstrike appeared to have been launched after Myanmar military forces suffered setbacks in recent clashes around the Awa Taung outpost and other forward positions that had been reinforced in recent weeks.

"The fighting is not constant at a high intensity, but the AA launches attacks whenever it gains a tactical advantage. There have also been surprise attacks on military reinforcement columns. The military appears to have resorted to nighttime airstrikes after sustaining losses. The clashes are continuing," the source said.

The Taung Maw U Naval Base remains one of the Myanmar military's last major strongholds in Kyaukphyu Township. Fighting around the base has continued for weeks as the AA seeks to tighten its siege on the installation, while the military has relied heavily on air power to support its remaining positions.

No casualties or damage from the latest airstrike have yet been independently confirmed.

The People Defense Force (PDF) has elevated its operational skill with commercial drone-turned-military drones, successfully targeting key positions of the junta regime forces.

Their strikes on the junta's transport ship navigating the Chindwin River highlight a new level of tactical effectiveness, particularly within the Mingin and Kalaymyo townships in the Sagaing division of Myanmar's northwest region.
