Bihar Results Are a Wake-Up Call: Get Out of the Office and Onto the Ground
The Bihar results have not just reaffirmed the strength of Brand Nitish Kumar, they have reminded me of something I have felt again and again over the last one year of travelling across Bihar: there is absolutely no substitute for ground-level work and on ground connect.
As someone born in Bihar, I carry the state in my heart wherever I go. And over the past year, as I travelled through its villages, blocks, districts, and small towns, I saw something very clearly: something that doesn’t show up on Twitter trends or TV panels.
Nitish Kumar ji, who entered politics during the JP Movement in the 1970s and became an MLA in 1985, has been shaping Bihar quietly, consistently, and with an eye on long-term change. His first stint as Chief Minister in March 2000 barely lasted a week. Today, he holds the record for being sworn in as CM the most number of times. You can interpret that in any way you like politically, but for me, it signals one thing: trust built over decades.
Everywhere I went over the last one year, especially when I sat with women in small towns and remote villages, they said just one thing:
“Nitish bhaiya ne bahut kiya hai hamare liye.”
Women police officers in Gaya and other districts told me,with no cameras, no media, no prompting, that women’s safety has genuinely improved. These are not curated testimonials. These are real voices from real people living real lives.
And all this made me think deeply.
In India, politics is shaped not by the loudness of digital narratives but by the quiet credibility earned through presence, governance, and day-to-day impact. Social media can amplify you, but it cannot anchor you. Optics can make you visible, but they cannot make you believable.
So it forces a question in my mind:
How effective is social media, really?
Has it become a space more for performance than persuasion? More for visibility than impact?
Because when it comes to vote making and vote giving, decisions are still made on the ground: in kitchens, chowks, panchayat meetings, and in the lived realities of people who do not tweet but who decide the future of this country.
And this lesson is not just political.
It is for all of us: entrepreneurs, creators, builders, leaders.
If we truly want to create impact, loyalty, and real outcomes, we must go beyond digital noise and focus on what is actually improving people’s lives.
Ground reality > optics.
Trust > noise.
Execution > narrative.
The Bihar results are a reminder, especially to people like us sitting in air-conditioned offices and glossy boardrooms, that if you want to build something that lasts, you have to show up on the ground. Even in the most connected digital world that we live in, real connections still happen on the ground.
You have to listen.
You have to understand.
You have to get your hands dirty.
Zameen se jude raho.
Because the ground is where the game is truly won.

Kuch khaas tha…
When I joined O&M, as a trainee, everyone spoke the Queen’s English. They wanted India to sound like London.
And then there was Piyush Pandey, with Rajasthani moustache, sitting in a smoky corner, writing in Hindi, making words smell of mitti and sound like home.
He didn’t sell brands.
He sold emotions.
He made us feel that Har shabd kuch kehta hai. Har insaan kuch kehta hai.
That every heart, every story could speak in our own tongue.
And yes, you’ll live on in every ad that feels like India, in every line that tastes meetha, meetha. Kuch nahin bahut khaas tha tum mein….
We won’t let you go from our memories, Piyush, kyonki yeh majboot jod hai, itni asaani se tootega nahin.
Om Shanti.
Happy 40th to everyone who has a connection with Setu!
Our name, our identity, our journey.
Here's to looking at the world from different angles, creating new stories and cherishing the ones we've lived till now!
