@neogoose_btw@CWood_sdf NT clearly a better design than the 1979 vintage Unix that Linux initially emulated. This has nothing to do with the Windows user experience progressively layered on top since 1992…
@vickyfoxcroft@thameswater You probably do have a smart water meter, even if it’s not generating your bill, and you probably do have a leak. Go and have a look. You probably should have done this before asking X and lazily creating confusion.
@WingsScotland If there were a reason why that definition of your name were unacceptable, perhaps because it’s attached to a from address rather than being explicit within the body, I would acknowledge that in the message rather than support any assumptions about detective IQ…
@Miragenz@AlexBrundle They must be taking pit lane limits from sections at the entrance and exit, given that normally the car stops somewhere. Perez presumably was under the speed when he cut. Sub-optimal…
I assume they use the normal timing systems for this, just adding sensors in the pit lane.
@DPJHodges Was there violence against the police in Southampton today? Confused.
I saw mild disorder Tuesday evening, no looting, burning buildings, serious injuries. And the police beating a protestor with their riot shields. I suspect any violence was because of the police actions.
@Butterknifeopr8 It’s on an existing dual carriageway that runs from the M1 to the A1 and in close proximity to Luton Airport. Not sure where the 1.3Bn is going. Various back pockets presumably.
@peterrhague The law is that it’s a defence if the knife is carried for religious reasons or as part of a national costume. Nothing specific to Sikhs. So removing the defence would be trivial and non-discriminatory.
@PhotogenicWeekE It comes from CP/M which was for 8080 microcomputers with a floppy disk. This launched in 1974, which is about the same time Unix emerged targeting ’proper’ computers. Such is history. MS of course marketed Xenix in the mid-80s once the 286 was available.
@Vocal_GenX But we do otherwise ban knives in public. You arguing for undoing the religious exception, all can carry knives. Would be reasonable and fair.
@robertgraham ‘Anachronistic’: wrong word. It’s this discussion and the original attention troll that are anachronistic, Dijkstra et al won the argument. Because it was a good one.
@TrisH0x2A Dijkstra didn’t call ’goto’ harmful. His letter to the ACM journal was titled by Niklaus Wirth. This is well known and your sloppiness disqualifies you as even a troll.
@nazirafzal He did get a lighter sentence because he’s a Sikh and could claim to be carrying the knife for religious reasons. It’s clear from the judge’s remarks and the referred Sentencing Sct 2020. Surprised you didn’t already know this. I really hope you’re not still involved in the law.
