Going above and beyond for a vulnerable customer 💙

Recently, Bus Station Controller Winsome was working at Harrow Bus Station when an elderly customer approached her window and asked to buy a ticket to Athens, Greece.

Winsome quickly realised that the customer was upset and confused. After taking the time to sit and talk with her, she discovered that she couldn’t remember her postcode.

Rather than simply directing her elsewhere, Winsome went the extra mile. She accompanied the customer on a 30-minute walk home, supported her when she nearly fell, and stayed with her until she knew she was safely home.

When they arrived, the customer’s daughter spoke through the doorbell camera to thank Winsome for bringing her home safely.

The following day, Winsome arrived at work to find a handwritten card and flowers from the customer’s family. She learned that the lady had dementia, and her daughter was incredibly grateful for the kindness and care Winsome had shown.

Thank you, Winsome, for going above and beyond to support a vulnerable customer and for showing such compassion and kindness.

A confident city centre cultural scene with our two largest theatres doing well makes the whole city more connected and a better place to live, work in and visit.

As cultural beacons, @RegandVic holds communities together and also help to keep the night-time economy going.

Last week the Experience Oxfordshire team lunched in The Orangery at Blenheim Palace.

It was a great chance to come together after a busy summer and welcome our newer team members.

The Orangery’s menu is created in collaboration with Marco Pierre White, the first British chef to receive three Michelin stars. Working closely with Blenheim’s chefs, he has shared his knowledge and skills to inspire and develop the team and shape a selection of his dishes.

Find out more about The Orangery at Blenheim Palace ➡ https://t.co/jXaywxFiuu

Thank you to Dominic Hare, CEO of Blenheim Palace, for kindly hosting us.

We're delighted to welcome Marc Bolland, Lead Non-Executive Director at the @DWPgovuk as a speaker at this year's #TourismPolicyConference2026.

Marc will explore "Tackling NEETs: Getting Young People into Work," looking at what employers can do to open doors for young people not in education, employment or training, and how business and government can work together to tackle youth unemployment. He will share ideas on creating clear routes into work, the role of the Government's #YouthGuarantee, and how sectors like hospitality and tourism can lead the way.

A former Chief Executive of Marks & Spencer and Morrisons, and former Chief Operating Officer of Heineken, Marc is the founder of the charity Movement to Work, which has delivered over 200,000 opportunities for young people facing barriers to work. In his DWP role, he convenes Chief Executives across sectors to help expand opportunity and tackle youth unemployment.

With a business leader's perspective on the #VisitorEconomy workforce, Marc brings valuable insight into how employers can build the talent pipeline the sector needs for the future.

Join us on 17 November for a full day of keynotes, Q&A and debate on the issues shaping the future and growth of #UKtourism.

We're delighted to welcome @MarketingLancs to the Tourism Alliance as a new member! 👏

Lancashire is known for its beautiful countryside, lively coastal towns, rich heritage and award-winning food and drink. With a 137mile coastline, including Blackpool's famous seafront and the natural beauty of Morecambe Bay, the rural majesty of the Forest of Bowland National Landscape as well as castles, historic houses, award-winning attractions, Michelin-starred restaurants and some of the UK's top gastropubs - Lancashire is a destination for all.

As the county's place marketing organisation, @MarketingLancs leads its Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) and promotes the destination through its consumer brand, Visit Lancashire. In 2024, the county welcomed 68.6 million visitors, generating an economic impact of £5.7bn.

Leading the county's Visitor Economy Strategy, the organisation supports a tourism sector of around 4,000 businesses, working with Visit Lancashire Partners to grow a sustainable and accessible visitor economy.

Great to have you with us! Together we'll share insight, make the case for destinations and help drive the growth of #UKTourism.
