@BelteshazzarAD@metathomist Wrong. 3/4ths of citations of the church fathers have them assign Jesus or Peter's confession to "this rock", but that doesn't mean they held it didn't apply to Peter.
E.g. St Augustine has citations that agree with both readings.
@BelteshazzarAD@metathomist The reason is that it would have been weird to call a dude "Petra". It's not that complicated.
And Jesus isn't called "petra". Show me one place where he is. (And don't let it be stuff like "and the rock was Christ")
@drhanko2 If only economists are qualified to argue economics, what makes you qualified to argue media and journalism? Do you have a journalism degree?
Yes, the NT was written in Greek, and they were translating into Greek what Jesus said in Aramaic.
In Aramaic, there aren't two different words for rock to use. Cephas just means rock.
When they translated it into Greek, they had to use natural gender.
As to your other claims: None of them contradict Peter being the pope. Many popes would have deserved Christ's rebuke, and many popes have been wrong in deed and in word.
Papal infallibility just doesn't mean "Can only speak the truth."
If two non-Catholics have a non-Catholic wedding, this is considered a natural marriage and the Church has no authority to judge or dissolve it - you cannot get out of it.
If both partners are Catholic, it is not considered a marriage at all, since they cannot validly marry without entering the sacrament.
I have no idea what happens when non-Catholics and Catholics get married outside the Church.
Yeah I was being unclear, thank you for pointing it out.
Two things are true: A) Many women dress the way they do in order to *avoid* judgment by other women (for too much frumpy or too much sexy, doesn't really matter either way) B) Women enjoy male attention.
But on the whole, I think the average woman is more motivated by avoiding social discomfort than by seeking pleasure, so I think a) usually outweighs b).
@Dylanszn01 Heaven is a strictly hierarchical monarchy where all distinctions will be known to all and loved by all.
Sounds like the opposite of the classless society.
@JuergenHartl@TheOhioRob@grok I would have said Putin is responsible, and the president decided that pressuring Ukraine would in the long run decrease rather than increase the number of deaths. I disagree, but that doesn't make him responsible for the actions of war criminals.
