@kathyf Town of 10,000, have two supermarkets, wide range of shops, multiple pubs, schools, library, leisure centre etc in walking distance. Also live half a mile from open countryside! Win-win IMO
@supertolerant This is almost exactly my experience all down the thread! The occasional chip shop treat (we had potato fritters, never fish). I’d never had a takeaway Chinese or curry until I went to university, or a takeaway pizza for that matter. Never a restaurant, maybe a pub meal
@ThymeToBeBorn I have a bread maker. If kids are around when the bread comes out, they go crazy for it. Big slices of bread and butter. Meanwhile packaged bread goes stale because nobody wants it. Homemade baked goods are delicious and available in large quantities, which kids really love
@JuddBaroff@sheep_found Watched it with my 12 year old who had been reading Twelfth Night at school and enjoying it. Had to pause and paraphrase at some points (but always tried to repeat the original text and illuminate) and she was crying at the end and talked about it the day after.
@VicVijayakumar “No, thank you” with no eye contact and a vague smile, and shut the door/keep on walking. I don’t give a tiny shit how they feel, they’re trying to steal my time and I know with absolute certainty I’ll never give them anything, let alone money, so why waste both our times?
@redskyatnight Also it’s…dumb stuff? Like “imagery of rushing”…I mean, yeah, but it’s right there in the poem? It says “quick, boys” ffs. You’re not unpacking that much. An English teacher with a degree (and I am one) should be able to teach that poem even if it’s their first read through.
@Phil_Gwilliam@holly2880092569@castittalent Managed to do mine in the last half hour. You have to wait until the videos have uploaded and say “complete” before you can submit.
@DylanoA4 During Covid we only got groceries delivered. The first time I took my son to the supermarket after months without stepping foot in one, we could hardly believe our eyes! We just marvelled all the way round. So much stuff! So many people!
@Gwenelope@oldandrewuk I’ve known this happen once - a y7 permanently excluded before the first half-term. They (tried to) set fire to the sports hall…!
@LissaKEvans Living in Belgium for a year made me realise that British houses are generally quite nicely decorated and modern in style, which I had hitherto not really noticed
