He (and his fans) also have to accept that people find what he did irredeemable regardless of how he seeks redemption. Not everyone will accept Troy just because he came out. You can want someone to have a seat at the table without wanting them at YOUR table.
Every time there’s Troy discourse on this app I am reminded that his Stan’s really do not want to sit with who his character is:
Troy is someone who canonically, in order to save his own skin, chose to hurt, belittle, mock, and demean other people
But in order to recognize that he does have a redemption arc, you do have to recognize he did awful things, on purpose, sometimes because he enjoyed doing them.
And the thing is, no one is stopping you from liking a character who did fucked up things like bully his disabled coworker bc he thought it was funny, esp because Troy does do work to redeem himself and be a better person (if his arc is enough is a discussion for a different day)
We’re obsessed with the idea that poor people might take more than they need, but we almost never question why billionaires are never satisfied with what they already have.
time for the monthly ‘shane anti-woke political agenda’ tweet to make the rounds again. How many times do I have to read this headcanon and why is it always him 😭
People call Digger a “hate letter to cinema” but it’s just Iñárritu confronting the fact that being a director and saying he’s going to make a film to combat the climate crisis is functionally identical to a baker saying he’s going to bake a cake to combat the climate crisis.
