Not saying the actual federal income tax rate, but everything combined, yes (you pay the employee and employer side of SS contribution). I spent over 15 years self employed and rarely got anywhere near 70% take home after taxes.

I think society is more disinterested in complying with the elites' agenda in keeping it always at the top of the news cycle, while lumping in deaths from hundreds of other causes into the tally, as was happening.

Again, what does it help to put words in my mouth?
