[Thread]🧵l ʿAbd al-Muʾmin's transformation of the Almohad Caliphate into a hereditary monarchy through the marginalization of the founding Berber tribes and the strategic integration of Arab allies:

❝Having the support of all the Almohad tribes loyal to the Tawḥīd was not enough; he also needed to win the adherence of other elements upon which to sustain himself. The effects of his alliance with the Arabs were immediate, and their utilization yielded results far more profitable than the Caliph could've expected. The first measure in which he counted on their help was related to the continuity of the Mu'minid dynasty. Before returning to Ifrīqiya, the Arab chiefs promised him loyalty and support, and the practical way of demonstrating this was by helping him proclaim his son, Muḥammad, as his successor. (1/6)

Fun fact: One of the Walis of Al-Andalus during the Umayyad Caliphate, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ashjaʿī al-Ghatafānī, came from the Ashjaʿ tribe, today found exclusively in Morocco 🇲🇦.

This tribe, which later assimilated into Banu Maʿqil through alliance, lived during the 14th–15th centuries in the Tafilalet deserts, before being partly incorporated into the Cheraga Guich, in the region of Fez, in the Saʿdi era.

Fun fact: this Almoravid stucco fragment shares the same vegetal and arcature motifs found in several 12th-century monuments in Marrakech, suggesting a common workshop tradition across the region.

Recently documented panel carved with acanthus leaves, seven-lobed palmettes, and a band of arcatures that likely once framed a mihrab or architectural niche. Discovered in the territory of the Arab tribe of Oulad Bousbaa in the Chichaoua region, in Maison de la Plaine.

Ce ʿIqāl porté par nos aïeuls, malgré sa perte au Maroc de nos jours, figure toujours aujourd'hui parmi les coutumes tribales dans des pays comme les Émirats Arabes Unis 🇦🇪 et chez d'autres tribus arabes de pays voisins comme l'Algérie 🇩🇿:
