@RockhoundRich One of the exercises I give students is let them read media articles about "Rare earths!!!!111" when it's all about lithium and cobalt, and tell me if they can spot what's wrong
@kmgoodenough It's useful to remove ambiguity, but no such ambiguity exists here. I'm thinking that "REE" has advanced to the status of a proper word, and we can stop repeatedly defining and redefining. Just like we don't define any other jargon word. We assume people know.
Here’s an older SEM image of spmm8 (the 8th micrometeorite I’ve found). And a new colored closeup which roughly represents the area inside the red rectangle.
@MineralCup Webmineral and Mindat both list the simplified #Vivianite formula:
(Fe2+)3 (PO4)2 · 8H2O
Wikipedia, however, lists the formula differently:
(Fe2+) (Fe2+)2 (PO4)2 · 8H2O
...and you might be thinking: why on Earth does Fe2+ show up in 2 different places?

@Sarah_Lambart @LJElkins I don't know how it works, but have you tried asking? Get a group of professors writing a business case, saying it will be used for this many courses and that many students with an average cost of x dollars per year per student or something?
