Disappointed to see this using the “conservative pounce” formulation.
I’m Gen X. All of us, including liberals like me, were there when we watched a nation filled with brilliant people put its best minds to making socialism work. It was an unparalleled disaster — not just economically, but environmentally, and certainly from a human rights perspective as well.
The fact that we now have people on both the right and the left who think Lenin was on to something, or that “real socialism has never been tried,” is mind-blowing. It represents a massive generational failure of our K–PhD system. They didn’t learn the history, philosophy, or economics that would have prevented them from falling for the same midwittery that too many of our grandparents fell for.
Sure, it sounds nice. Utopia always does. But it was a colossal disaster that we must not repeat.
So no, Axios. The news isn’t that the GOP is sounding the alarm. It’s that more genuine liberals aren’t.
The IDF took out the Hamas terrorist who tortured Rom Braslavski — in a precision airstrike.
"This is the most emotional day of my life."
We love you, Rom.🤍
🚨 BREAKING: Loay Alnaji, the former Moorpark professor who bashed Paul Kessler with a megaphone and killed him, just got probation and 365 days in county jail.
The DA asked for prison.
The judge refused.
This is California.
Absolutely shameful.
If this was reversed and a Jew had intentionally hit a Muslim over the head with a blunt object, and the Muslim fell to the ground so hard that he died of brain trauma. I guarantee the assailant would see years of prison time. This is just plain old fashioned antisemitism. Killing a Jew is simply not deserving of jail time.
@Chiotte087@HenMazzig Only Democrats like socialism, and Russia supports both the far left and far right movements in the US.
There are lots of people who hate socialism who aren't evil, and many of the people who outright call themselves socialists seem pretty evil.
@heymrteo@MurphDugan@EricMGarcia some of the DSA people are outright leninists, and there is bleed between all DSA people on their ideology. there is already significant marxist influence in major institutions, with ideological crackdowns and struggle sessions. sadly, it's a real threat.
Prisons keep dangerous people away from others. They do punish people, almost everyone agrees prison is a punishment, and that works to deter behavior. Prisons also stop escalating cycles of violence.
If someone beat you up and they faced no consequences, you'd likely want to impose a negative consequence on them to deter them from beating you up in the future. They, knowing you would want that, might seek to preemptively deter you from doing so. You, knowing they know, ...
Prisons preempt that by imposing a negative consequence on the criminal for you, ending the (potential) cycle.
@LeeKuanYimby "They always have Banned Books sections at bookstores but it’s always like Harry Potter and Catcher in the Rye and not like, Mein Kampf or anything that’s banned in our prison system or by the antifascist regimes we finance around the world" - What she sounds like to a noncultist
@terrychristiani@atrupar You're mixing up cause and effect, partially. He got elected because of foreign influence. And then he, by his incompetence, opened the floodgates even more.
@mehdirhasan Well no, you can have one, and it is recognized. You just can't get one in Israel. You have to fly 30 minutes away. Numerous Muslim nations (your religion, which you spend no time trying to reform) do not allow this.
What is shocking to me is that he is so passive, because if I was being confronted by a braying racist goon, I would not react this way.
What is not shocking to me is that barely anyone is speaking out against this on the left. It’s indisputably endemic & it’s disgusting.
