“Traditional Islamic intellectual history organizes its intellectual labor across three levels: kalām addresses what is true about God, creation, and human agency; uṣūl al-fiqh addresses how revealed texts are to be read, analogized, and applied; and furūʿ al-fiqh addresses the resulting substantive rulings on specific cases. The parameters identified above sit beneath all three. Uṣūl al-fiqh is a methodology for text-to-ruling derivation; it presupposes, without examining, what the objects of exchange are, what distinguishes māl from what is not māl, and whether the formal validity of a legal act forecloses further structural assessment. Those presuppositions are not theological either; they are not claims about divine attributes or human obligation in the abstract. They concern the ontological structure of transactions and the nature of the objects the law governs, a level of inquiry that kalām never enters and uṣūl al-fiqh never examines because both disciplines take it as settled ground.”

An analysis on Al Jazeera argues that the assassination of Ali Khamenei is unlikely to trigger the rapid collapse of Iran’s political system that Washington hopes for. Instead, it may push the country toward a far more dangerous and uncompromising phase of war.

While Trump portrayed the assassination as a decisive blow that could topple the government, analysts say Iran’s power structure was designed to withstand precisely this kind of shock.

The system is institutional, not purely personal. Mechanisms for succession were quickly activated, including plans for an interim leadership council. Iran’s dual military framework, the regular army and the IRGC, backed by the Basij militia, remains intact, cohesive and deeply embedded in the state.

Rather than collapse, experts warn of transformation. With Khamenei gone, the doctrine of “strategic patience” that often restrained Iran’s responses may also be gone.

Analysts suggest a new leadership, particularly one shaped more directly by military figures, could abandon caution in favor of a “scorched earth” approach: escalating retaliation, widening the battlefield, and removing previous political red lines.

Killing Iran’s “head” does not mean the system will collapse. Instead, a cornered and militarized leadership may escalate outward, making wider war, not regime implosion, the greater risk.

The reason Van Jones can get up, use “dead Gaza babies” so crassly, toss in a joke about Diddy mid-sentence, and have an audience erupt in laughter - without hesitation for either context or content - is because of the depth and breadth of dehumanization that’s been permitted toward Palestinians (including by those who call themselves “allies”). There is no America in which “dead Jewish babies” could ever be invoked in such a vulgar way on such a platform.

I remember how much Muslims were lectured about the importance of a right to offend being part of a right to free speech.

We were told that we must accept offensive and racist remarks about our faith, our Prophet, etc, in the name of free speech and integrating into 'Western civilization'. Voltaire and the rest.

Those same folks who lectured Muslims are now saying to people that they cannot be offensive about a dead conservative influencer - and they will be punished if they do so. Even if being offensive in one's speech is literally what the First Amendment guarantees.

While everyone focuses on the Charlie Kirk story, this deserves at least equal attention: the U.S. military, in collusion with the South Korean government, maintained during decades a system where tens of thousands of women were forced into sexual servitude for U.S. soldiers, many of whom were minors.

This isn't speculation: the South Korean supreme court ruled in 2022 that the government had illegally operated these brothels, in a way where the women were subjected to debt bondage and unable to leave. In fact, as per the New York Times (https://t.co/8fSZFWWwng), "all the women [in this system] were held in debt bondage," so they were all, effectively, sex slaves.

The scale of it was so insane that the economy around these brothels (bars, etc.) was estimated to make up about 25% of South Korea's GDP during the 1960s and 70s (https://t.co/ACboV0Jy86).

Sordid detail: if one of these women developed a STD, she would be placed into quarantine facilities that US soldiers referred to as "Monkey Houses," (pictured below 👇) because of the screams of women demanding to be let out (https://t.co/tsIRpeCgTC). The women also had to wear numbered badges or tags, like commodity products.

More than 100 of these women have now filed a landmark lawsuit against the U.S. military to hold it accountable as “the real culprit” in that state-sponsored sex trade.

The women however, under agreements between the US and South Korea, cannot sue the U.S. military directly - only their own government. So, perversely, even if the court finds the U.S. military was "the real culprit" in this system of sexual slavery, it's South Korean taxpayers who will have to pay for that.

No one deserves to be shot brutally in public, sliced open by the bullet of a cowardly sniper.

Hence, I condemn in the strongest terms the targeted assassination of at least 1500 Palestinians by snipers - many of whom were women and children collecting food - by the IDF cowards in Gaza.

And I condemn in the strongest terms the shooting of over 1000 Palestinians living in the West Bank in 'clashes' instigated by Isareli forces.

And I also condemn in the strongest terms the bombing and intentional killing of over 70,000 civilians in Gaza by the genocidal regime of Netanyahu.

Anyone who justified or mocked those deaths deserves no sympathy and is no hero - even as the same verdict above holds true for them as well.

Dying by violence does not cleanse a legacy of justifying violence.

This is effectively saying: 'Unless you stop massacring tens of thousands of people, we threaten to treat them like normal humans and will demand freedom for them! But if you continue imprisoning them and holding them hostage behind 50-foot barriers, as long as you stop shooting them, that's ok and you're all good!'

A ceasefire should NOT have any bearing on demanding Palestinian freedom.

And the UK in particular, who literally started this entire mess with their Balfour Declaration and botched handling of Palestine after World War 1, bears the most responsibility in correcting their own egregious mistake.

I'm no Tucker Carlson fan but looking at the ethnic mix of Iran is probably one of the most relevant questions to ask.

And the fact that warmongers like Cruz haven't even considered the question shows we're dealing with the same kind of pre-Iraq war nihilistic hubris, where all that matters is destruction with zero thought given about what comes next.

As @SohrabAhmari reminds in his latest article (which is a good read: https://t.co/6nSEt86jsr), "Persians make up only a bare majority of the country" (if that), while a quarter are Azeri (including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei) or Kurds. You also have significant numbers of Turkic people, Lors, Baluch, Arabs, and smaller groups of Jews, Assyrians, and Armenians.

Today the Iranian state manages to bind these peoples together, but in a state collapse scenario, or in a scenario where a Western puppet like Pahlavi is installed, the risk of separatism, civil war and sectarian violence is very high in a country with such ethnic diversity.

And before you say "who cares about that?", remember that this is very much what happened in Iraq after the U.S. invasion, and Iran is a far larger and far more consequential state.

For one, ironically, the biggest unintended consequence of the destabilization of Iraq was massively increasing Iranian influence in the region - not to mention hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths and millions of refugees.

Now the same people want to "fix" this by destabilizing an even larger, more ethnically complex, and more strategically vital country, apparently with even less forethought than went into Iraq - which is genuinely saying something.

A Nigerian Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, has confirmed that authorities in #SaudiArabia barred him from performing the 2025 hajj despite holding a valid visa.

Sheikh Gumi, a Kaduna-based preacher known for his outspoken views on global and regional politics, announced via his official Facebook page that despite being granted a valid visa, Saudi officials were reportedly “uncomfortable” with his presence in the Holy Land.

In his words, “For some obvious reasons—my views about world politics—the Saudi authorities are uncomfortable about my presence in the Hajj after giving me the Hajj visa.”

Sheikh Gumi thanked the Nigerian authorities, who he said have pledged to take up the matter immediately with Saudi authorities. #Nigeria
