@PartPhil Douglas was a good story but the Canucks had a pretty full roster already and they need to be bringing in guys that might have exchange value at the deadline. Douglas was claimed on waivers which showed he doesn't really have any.
Trading one of the worst goalies in the league to a team whose 1st round pick you own and whose other goalie is very injury prone is a hilarious 4D chess move by Danny Briere.
@millerisabully@Sean_B_taketwo@Zer0PucksGiven Well I think its unlikely to need a piece in 2 years. This thing is gonna take 4-5 years realistically. But even if they did, you would ideally want a piece that is mid 20's and not a 30 year old to better align with the competitive window of the new core.
People talk about trading Hronek now but wouldn't it be better in two years? NMC becomes a 15-team NTC, he'd be 30 y/o with 4 more years on contract.
You'd get two seasons of him insulating the young D and then could trade him for a similar return with more control. #Canucks
@Sean_B_taketwo@Zer0PucksGiven Picks have exchange value though. I expect they'll still be needing to use those picks two years from now but if they somehow were accelerating quicker than expected then they can be used as currency to acquire another piece.
@RealJK98 It makes more sense to trade him in two seasons when his NMC moves to a 15-team NTC. Team will have more leverage without the NMC to deal with and he'll only be 30 with 4 years left on a great cap hit. He can insulate the young D for 2 years and then fetch a comparable return
@amato_mike Does it really change much? Wasn't it always likely to be Vanecek/Schmidt 1A 1B next year given how the end of the season/playoffs played out?
@VinceMackenzie1@ThomasDrance They made those trades and signings when their team was already on the rise to being a contender, not when they were 27th in the league
